Before the first annual Colorado Public Lands Day celebrated this year on May 20, 2017, I did not fully realize just how many plentiful resources the beautiful San Luis Valley actually has for its people. Having the incredible opportunity to be a part of the EcoFlight flyover of the Valley has allowed me to see my birthplace in a whole new light, a light which makes the place I have lived my whole life shine so much brighter in my eyes.
Being 8,000 feet up in the air, looking down on the alfalfa crops, the wetlands, and the Río Grande, really opened my eyes by making me just realize how much opportunity there truly is for growth in the San Luis Valley. As I looked at all of the rich land and water below me, I thought of all of the opportunities for everyone who loves the outdoors and who wants to be more connected with their adventurous side.
The public lands which we share are like a great treasure, and I really hope that more teens, and people in general, learn to love them and protect them so that we can all continue to enjoy them for many years to come.
I look forward to celebrating more Colorado Public Lands Days and becoming more involved with the efforts of raising awareness on the land which is available to the people of the San Luis Valley.
